15 March … As many of you will have noticed, Market Samurai has recently been updated to get backlink data from a new location – Majestic SEO. We understand that for some users, the change in backlink numbers and the differences in available data has come as a surprise.
Most of our users have been delighted that we’ve updated to use Majestic SEO, as they generally offer a more accurate picture of the true number of backlinks that are going to your website. Websites that previously reported only a handful of backlinks now regularly report hundreds or even thousands of links.
However, in a small number of cases, Majestic SEO will report lower or even no backlinks to your website. While they have the largest private backlink database available on the Internet (with over 1 Trillion Backlinks), their data will vary from Yahoo’s, particularly for newer websites.

22 March … A new update from Google at the end of last week has had some good and bad effects. Unfortunately, due to new rate-limiting that Google are performing, it’s no longer possible to successfully generate SEOTC or SEOUC data. When Market Samurai tries to generate this data it is quickly issued with a CAPTCHA. With the number of CAPTCHAs that each SEOTC/SEOUC search would generate for a list of keywords it’s not possible to pass the CAPTCHAs through to the user, and as such we will be temporarily retiring the SEOTC and SEOUC metrics. As the second largest search engine in the world, Bing also provides highly accurate and trustworthy SEO data, which we may use as a replacement for Google data. At present this is looking like the best alternative and we are currently investigating how to make the switch.

5 April … Two changes that have occurred lately have sadly meant that we have to remove some well-loved and used functionality.

Change #1: OCI is No Longer Available

Microsoft’s Adlabs, one of the most loved, but also most unreliable data sources in Market Samurai, has been removed. We made this decision on the back of long periods of inactivity from the Adlabs site, with the page completely unavailable for weeks at a time. Whilst the site occasionally comes back online, the long downtimes with no information or communication from Microsoft have lead us to drop this data, in favour of more reliable data derived by our own algorithms within Market Samurai.

Change #2: Google Trends Monthly Data No Longer Available

One change that has occurred without our intervention is the removal of Google Trends data from the Google Keyword Tool. You may have noticed that recently Trends data has appeared as just a blank column in Keyword Research. This is because Google has stopped returning this data through it’s online Keyword Tool. However, trends data will still remain in Keyword Research, but will now be accessible by clicking through on the Trends column to view the data in your browser.

All these changes should not affect your keyword research efforts too greatly and in some ways it could even enhance it. Market Samurai will still be the leading keyword research tool available on the net.
